Boykin, Johnson Named To Hornung Award Weekly Honor Roll

Louisville, Ky. (Monday, November 7, 2011) – Brandon Boykin (Georgia) and Dennis Johnson (Arkansas) have been named to the Paul Hornung Award Weekly Honor Roll. The weekly recognition honors versatile, single-game performances around the nation by FBS student-athletes. 

The Paul Hornung Award, presented by Texas Roadhouse, is awarded annually to the most versatile player in major college football.

Fans now can vote online at www.votepaulhornung.com to help select finalists for the 2011 award. Gilmore, Woods and Watkins are among 59 players eligible for fan voting on the Facebook page powered by Texas Roadhouse and the Louisville Sports Commission.

Boykin saw action on both sides of the football in a convincing win over New Mexico while Johnson stole the spotlight in the Paul Hornung Award Game of the Week.

Boykin scored on offense, made contributions in both the kick and punt return game and made major contributions on defense. Johnson had a game-high 252 all-purpose yards for the Razorbacks, including a 98-yard kickoff return for touchdown. 

Week Ten Selections to the Paul Hornung Award Weekly Honor Roll

• Georgia’s Brandon Boykin caught one pass for 42 yards and a touchdown in a 63-16 win over New Mexico St. on Nov. 5. On special teams Boykin returned two punts for 19 yards and one kick for 33 yards. While playing defense he recorded six total tackles, including one for loss, and forced a fumble in the win. Boykin also held for kickoffs on a windy day in Athens. 

• Arkansas’ Dennis Johnson returned a kickoff for a 98-yard score in a 44-28 win over South Carolina on Nov. 5. He also had a team high 15 carries for 86 yards and four receptions for 36 yards. Johnson finished the Razorbacks’ game against South Carolina with 252 all-purpose yards (86 rushing, 36 receiving and 130 kick returns).

Paul Hornung Award presented by Texas Roadhouse

Created by the Louisville Sports Commission in 2010, the Paul Hornung Award presented by Texas Roadhouse is given annually to the most versatile player in major college football. The Award is designed to promote college football and help preserve the legacy of one of Kentucky's best-known and accomplished athletes who has always called Louisville home. Hornung, the 1956 Heisman Trophy winner at Notre Dame and NFL MVP for the Green Bay Packers, set a single season NFL scoring record that stood 46 years. Paul is a member of the College and Pro Football Halls of Fame, and Vince Lombardi once called Hornung, “The most versatile man ever to play the game.” A national selection committee comprised of 16 sports journalists and former NFL stars votes for the Hornung Award, and this year fan voting on Facebook powered by Texas Roadhouse will comprise the 17th vote. All votes are tabulated independently by regional accounting firm Dean Dorton Allen Ford. The winner is honored at a banquet presented by Jewish Hospital Sports Medicine in late January each year in downtown Louisville.
