Reid, Austin and Klein Named To Hornung Award Weekly Honor Roll

Louisville, Ky. (Monday, November 14, 2011) – Greg Reid (Florida State), Tavon Austin (West Virginia) and Collin Klein (Kansas State) have been named to the Paul Hornung Award Weekly Honor Roll. The weekly recognition honors versatile, single-game performances around the nation by FBS student-athletes.

The Paul Hornung Award, presented by Texas Roadhouse, is awarded annually to the most versatile player in major college football.

Fans now can vote online at www.votepaulhornung.com to help select finalists for the 2011 award. The three selections are among the 61 players eligible for fan voting on the Facebook page powered by Texas Roadhouse and the Louisville Sports Commission.

Reid and Austin showed their versatility by making positive contributions on special teams and on their respective sides of the ball. Reid had five tackles in the 23-19 win over Miami while Austin had a big day with nine receptions for West Virginia in their upset of Cincinnati on the road.

"Greg (Reid) thinks every return is a touchdown,” said Florida State head coach Jimbo Fisher. “That's what makes him great.”

Austin, who had contributions via rush, reception, punt return and kick return, helped keep West Virginia alive in a heated race to the Big East Conference Championship.

Klein scored six touchdowns in the game, reminiscent of Hornung’s knack for scoring points in multiple facets of the game. Klein’s score in the game’s fourth overtime was the difference for Kansas State. His six total touchdowns helped him score a season high 30 points. 

Week 11 Selections to the Paul Hornung Award Weekly Honor Roll

• Florida State's Greg Reid had three punt returns for 106 yards including a touchdown, a kickoff return for 34 yards and five tackles in a 23-19 win over Miami on Nov 12.

• West Virginia’s Tavon Austin had one carry for 6 yards, 9 receptions for 126 yards, 3 punt returns for 50 yards, and three kick returns for 67 yards in a 24-21 win over Cincinnati on Nov. 12. In all, Austin had 249 all-purpose yards in touching the ball four different ways.

• Kansas State QB Collin Klein had 35 carries for 103 yards with five touchdowns rushing and completed 17-of-27 passes for 281 yards and a touchdown in a 53-50, four overtime win over Texas A&M on Nov. 12. His rushing TD in the fourth overtime was the game winner.

Paul Hornung Award presented by Texas Roadhouse

Created by the Louisville Sports Commission in 2010, the Paul Hornung Award presented by Texas Roadhouse is given annually to the most versatile player in major college football. The Award is designed to promote college football and help preserve the legacy of one of Kentucky's best-known and accomplished athletes who has always called Louisville home. Hornung, the 1956 Heisman Trophy winner at Notre Dame and NFL MVP for the Green Bay Packers, set a single season NFL scoring record that stood 46 years. Paul is a member of the College and Pro Football Halls of Fame, and Vince Lombardi once called Hornung, “The most versatile man ever to play the game.” A national selection committee comprised of 16 sports journalists and former NFL stars votes for the Hornung Award, and this year fan voting on Facebook powered by Texas Roadhouse will comprise the 17th vote. All votes are tabulated independently by regional accounting firm Dean Dorton Allen Ford. The winner is honored at a banquet presented by Jewish Hospital Sports Medicine in late January each year in downtown Louisville.
